The plans for the annual Remembrance Day commemoration taking place in Manchester this Sunday, November 14th, have been revealed today.
After all events were cancelled last year as a result of the Covid pandemic, the city will this year remember the service and the sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families, again in a Remembrance Day procession beginning at 10:25am on John Dalton Street. The parade will then march to the Cenotaph in St. Peter’s Square.
There, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders and uniformed organisations will all be invited to pay their respects.

At 11am, there will then be the customary two-minute silence. The start and finish of the traditional silence will be marked by the firing of a 105mm gun.
Wreaths will then be laid on the Cenotaph by the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, the Lord Mayor of Manchester, and representatives from the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Greater Manchester Police, and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Following this, the parade will then proceed to Central Library for the March Past, during which the National Anthem will be played.
After the Parade has left the Cenotaph, the barriers will be removed and members of the public will be given the opportunity to place their own tributes around the memorial.

The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Tommy Judge, said: “At the service we will pay tribute to those who have died protecting our country and reflect on past and present conflicts.
“After cancelling last year’s ceremony due to Covid restrictions, it’s important that the people of Manchester come together to show our combined appreciation for the armed forces.
“It will be an honour to mark this solemn day with the people of Manchester.”
For those unable to attend, the event will be live streamed via this link: https://vimeo.com/642089343. Any veterans who wish to take part in the service are encouraged to email Manchester City Council at civicevents@manchester.gov.uk.
