The UK’s first ever live post-mortem experience is coming to Manchester this year

The UK’s first ‘immersive’ post-mortem experience is coming to Manchester.

Admittedly, this may not be everyone’s idea of a fun day out, but for those with a somewhat darker taste and a keen interest in what happens during an autopsy, The Post-Mortem Live offers an incredibly unique opportunity.

Guests will be able to take part in an authentic post-mortem, explore the anatomy of the human body, and even have a go at the dissection of real specimens.

And, while the experience is primarily aimed at medical students, tickets are also on offer for members of the public who simply want a look in on the action, too.

The website’s description reads: “The Post Mortem Live offers students and the general public an insight into the fascinating world of pathology and post mortem. 

“Led by award winning human anatomist Samuel Piri and his clincial team, you’ll journey through the human body learning all things anatomy, physiology and pathology. Using VIVIT -the world’s only semi-synthetic human cadaver, you’ll begin an immersive and interactive post mortem where you’ll examine the body to identify the pinnacle cause of death.”

Despite the grizzly nature of the experience, The Post-Mortem Live has proven to be a smash hit, with Brunel University writing: “A fascinating experience, applying the principles of pathology to determine the cause of death was great for our students.”

The BBC, meanwhile, simply stated: “Brilliant and compelling.”

The Post Mortem Live

The Post-Mortem Live will be coming to both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University on Sunday 10th October.

Each ticket includes general entry as well as anything needed to take part in the event – basic PPE, masks, hats, gloves, printed anatomy diagrams, literature packs, specimens and clinical consumables are all provided for no extra charge.
