A wrestler has organised a show to raise funds for two boys who were seriously injured in an M66 crash, which tragically killed their pregnant mum and auntie.
When Carl Stocks, a professional wrestler from Greater Manchester, heard that his friend’s young son was one of the boys hospitalised in the crash, which also killed his mum, he wanted to do something to help.
Knowing his friend’s son is a huge wrestling fan, he decided to organise a wrestling event to raise money for the two boys and their families, who need all the help they can get while they recover.
On the afternoon of Saturday May 13th, Frankie Jules-Hough, 38, her two sons, Tommy, nine, and Rocky, two, and her nephew Tobias, four, were travelling along the motorway when they were involved in the devastating smash.
At an inquest into her death, the coroner’s court heard how Frankie had pulled onto the hard shoulder when a car that was travelling at ‘excessive speed’ lost control and crashed into her car.
A 22-year-old man, Adil Iqbal, has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to the injuries sustained by Tommy and Tobias.
The two cousins are now out of their comas and are slowly on the road to recovery, along with two-year-old Rocky.
The Tommy and Tobias Wrestling Show, named after the two cousins, will take place at The Circle venue in Bacup on Saturday, July 16th. Wrestlers will slam and throw their opponents in a family-friendly entertaining show from 4-7pm.
Carl said: “I’ve worked with Tommy’s Dad Tom for about six years. He’s such a nice guy, always smiling, we’ve played football together, had nights out together and spoke lots about wrestling as his son is a big wrestling fan.
“He’s been trying to get to a show more recently, but with us both having busy lives, plus the areas that I wrestle, it’s sometimes hard for him to get there.
“When the news broke of what happened I was heartbroken for him and the whole family, not only because of the obvious, but I also have a child a similar age to those involved.
“Childhood trauma can be tough and although young ones are said to be resilient we want to give them amazing memories to carry through life.
“I thought of doing this show as soon as it happened. I knew my donation to the Go Fund Me in the grand scheme of things wasn’t enough and knew I could do more with the wrestling community I’m in.
“I messaged a bunch of people a day later and the response was phenomenal. Putting together the show has been done surprisingly quick and easy as people genuinely want to be a part of it.
“We have people travelling from Scotland and Wales as well as across the North of England and it’s a testament to the workers and their character to show how people can come together to do anything to help others.”
At the event, there will be amazing raffle prizes up for grabs including two tickets to the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club, a signed pair of goalkeeper gloves and picture from David De Gea (Manchester United), a John Lewis Voucher and more.
The premises has a licensed bar, and food will be served also.
The Tommy and Tobias Wrestling Show will be held at The Circle, Bacup, on Saturday July 16th 4-7pm. Proceeds from tickets will go to help Tommy and Tobias with their recovery.
Tickets are £8 for adults, £5 for under 12s and £20 for a family of 4. Venue holds 500. To book tickets click HERE.
